The 1940s silhouette is under the spotlight in Carlson’s take on AW 2012 – a collection that speaks of refined glamour mixed with a generous measure of gently simmering sex appeal. Designer Tanya Carlson’s deft tailoring takes centre stage with a suiting story in midnight, garnet and black. The cinched, collegiate style jacket and garcon pant both feature contrast piping – an unexpected twist that traverses from boardroom to dinner date with ease.
Another elegant yet youthful take on professional dressing is a Peplum style, multi-button suit jacket with matching pant or lantern skirt, all in a charcoal wool herringbone. Jewel coloured separates inject colour and flexibility while the most divine velvet dresses and elbow-skimming raglan sleeve frocks are as easy to wear as they are stunning.
The 100% wool, buttoned capes in toffee, tangerine, sapphire, asphalt and black are simply irresistible – they are sure to become instant classics. Meanwhile, a much-loved design from several seasons ago makes a welcome return. The Carlson Duffel is an angora wool blend coat with merlot satin lining that beautifully protects the wearer against the elements.
Carlson’s trademark use of guipure lace – this season in hues of caper and sapphire – features in skirts, dresses and a classic long-sleeved shift. Exposed zips add a utilitarian edge to the ultra-feminine shapes.
A watermark silk cotton fabric in garnet and liquorice has been used to create dresses and shirts with a definite vintage flavour, while bold, multi-stripe stretch merino dresses and sailor tops tie the collection together with striking modernity. A long line, slim bias-cut gown in silver lace – a 1940s inspired showstopper – serves as the delicate icing to this most delicious winter offering.
Carlson AW is in-store from February 2012.
