“Who Is?” is a new music sub-section/feature that introduces you to music you may not have heard about. My idea for doing this little feature was also to pick people with interesting style and are fun to look at (and who I’m listening to) First up is Grimes. Grimes is a Canadian musician, real name, Claire Boucher, and has been described as indie/pop/psychedelic/electronic. Her fourth album Visions is out March 12 (that’s Monday) on 4AD. A few handy facts – Grimes’ debut album Geidi Primes was released on cassette tape, she opened for Lykke Li on her 2011 US tour and she is also a visual artist and does a lot of her own posters and sleeve designs.
Grimes’ style is lead by her severe fringe cut mid-forehead, a mish mash of clothing styles and eras make her outfits almost look homeless person/geisha chic (in a good way) add a bit of sparkle and a bit of sportswear and voila.
Cheese On Toast said “Grimes is post-internet – combining and conjoining her inspirations like a modern-day Frankenstein through grimy-rose-tinted looking glasses”
I stumbled across Grimes about a year back when I saw the clip for Vanessa (<<check it out there) I like her squeaky, girly voice, accompanied by electronic bleepy, synth-pop sounds and eccentric/complex arrangements that seem to get weirder (and better) as she progresses. Grimes also produces her own music as well as including self-choreographed dance routines.
Check out the new single, Oblivion below.
